Handle Someone's Sadness
How to support someone experiencing a sense of loss, hurt, low engagement or despondency.
- If the person is crying, give them a moment. Let them know there's no rush to do anything. You might just sit with them quietly.
- Help normalise emotions and show non judgmental support. "It's very normal to get emotional at times, I understand and am here to help if I can".
- Don't assume what they need. Ask how you can support them in the moment. Space, someone to talk to, a cup of tea, some fresh air?
